Lutsenko dismisses prosecutor of Rivne region

Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko has dismissed Prosecutor of Rivne region Anatoliy Kovalchuk.
This statement Lutsenko made during his visit to Rivne, local journalist Viktoria Mamotyuk reported on Facebook.
According to the journalist, the prosecutor general said he intended to reshuffle the whole leadership of the prosecutor`s office in the area.
At the same time, spokeswoman for the Ukrainian Prosecutor General`s Office (PGO) Larysa Sargan reported about the detention of deputy regional prosecutor Andriy Borovyk, who is suspected of organizing a criminal group for illegal extraction of amber in Rivne region.
It was also reported that searches of the deputy prosecutor of Rivne region had revealed a collection of watches worth over $100,000.
During a briefing, Lutsenko stated that the operation on Borovyk`s arrest had been prepared jointly by the PGO, Interior Ministry and the Security Service of Ukraine.
The PGO press service also informed on Twitter about the detention of the lieutenant colonel of the intelligence service for covering the illegal extraction of amber.
Lutsenko also noted that searches were carried out of the security service officer.
Chairman of the Security Service Vasyl Hrytsak explained he was a senior officer who had been engaged in the counterintelligence activity, and using his position he provided the so-called `protection` of the illegal business.
