Local elections in Donbas impossible without OSCE police mission – Klimkin

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin has said that the deployment of the OSCE police mission in eastern Ukraine should contribute to the security in Donbas for possible elections in the occupied territories, according to an UaPosition correspondent.
Commenting on the statement of the Russian President that the OSCE observers need to be armed, Klimkin said that ”it was our proposal.”
”I actively defended it during the last meeting of the Normandy Four foreign ministers in Paris,” he told journalists on Friday.
”It`s hard to talk about ensuring the security of elections without the OSCE police mission. The observers, who will monitor the electoral process, will come from the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR). Of course, they will be unarmed, but we believe that the OSCE mission should be armed. Otherwise, how it will be able to carry out its functions? Any provocation against the mission is completed by the fact that the electoral process cannot be developed further,” the minister said.
