Kyiv, Brussels sign association agreement on Ukraine`s participation in Euratom Program

Ukraine`s government and the European Atomic Energy Community signed an agreement on Ukraine`s associated participation in Euratom Research and Training Program 2014-2018, an UNIAN correspondent reported.
The agreement was signed in Brussels by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin and European Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation Carlos Moedas. Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko was also present during the signing ceremony, according to the report.
With the signing of the agreement, Ukraine becomes the associated country in the Euratom Program, which provides a legal basis for participation by the country`s scientific institutions in promising projects in nuclear power sector. This, in turn, will facilitate the implementation by Ukraine of the EU nuclear safety standards, the report noted.
Furthermore, it is reported that the implementation of the agreement will advance Ukraine`s integration into the European research community and strengthen international scientific and technical cooperation in the nuclear power sector.
