Kuchma says violation of truce not contrary to Minsk agreements

There is not a single example in the world, when peace comes immediately after signing of the peaceful agreement.
Leonid Kuchma, President of Ukraine in 1995-2004, said, answering questions of a Ukrinform correspondent in Chernihiv.
“Is this the war? This is not the war – this is an exception. Dozens of people were killed in the war every day. And today, it is simply the violation of agreements. There is not a single example in the world that the agreement was signed and next day it was peace,” the ex-President said.
In his opinion, a protocol on the ceasefire in Donbas, signed September 5 in Minsk, is a “breakthrough” in peaceful settlement of the situation in the east. And further, according to Kuchma, the authorities must act, which should ensure implementation of all directions, outlined in the document.
“There is much work. The government, the parliament and the President should be responsible for this, since I am not even a government official. I undertook, perhaps, extra responsibility, signing such a document on a request from the incumbent President,” he said.
