Klimkin wants tougher sanctions against Russia

By recognizing pseudo-elections in the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR), Russia has considerably complicated the further implementation of the Minsk agreements, so the West should respond to this by imposing tougher sanctions on Russia.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said this in an interview published in Germany’s Bild newspaper on Tuesday.
“If the West wants Russia to take into account its opinion and follow international rules, a logical step would be now using all possible means to increase pressure on the Kremlin, including by toughening sanctions,” Klimkin said.
He called for the continuation of the existing format of negotiations involving Ukraine, Russia and the EU on the settlement of the situation in the east of Ukraine. However, he rejected the possibility of Kyiv’s holding separate dialogue with terrorists.
However, the minister said he was confident that Kyiv would be able to regain control of the eastern regions. “These are Ukrainian regions, and we will return them,” Klimkin said.
