Klimkin: Ukraine not to repeat Georgia’s mistake in conflict with Russia

In the conflict with Russia Ukraine will strictly follow the legal procedure of appeals to the international organizations in order not to repeat Georgia’s mistake of and to achieve recognition of Russia as an aggressor.
Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said this at the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.
“On January 22, we held expert consultations in Minsk, where we had provided compelling evidences that individuals and legal entities of the Russian Federation sponsor terrorism. International conventions envisage that we should begin with expert consultations and provide relevant legal arguments. And in the case of disagreement between the parties, we can go to arbitral tribunal at first, and then in the International Court of Justice. We will not repeat the mistakes of our friends and partners, Georgia in particular, that had immediately filed a case to the International Court of Justice, and it was rejected for formal reasons. We will closely follow the legal logic and legal procedures. We will prove the guilt of the Russian party and obtain the appropriate decision in the international courts,” he said.
Klimkin has also informed that the Ukrainian party provided the UN Security Council, the OSCE Permanent Council and the Council of Ministers of the Council of Europe with compelling evidences, showing who fired at Mariupol last week.
