Kikhtenko explains why Ukraine will buy coal from terrorists

Ukraine is obliged to buy from militants the coal that is mined in the areas controlled by the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics to avoid energy collapse in the region.
Head of Donetsk Regional State Administration Oleksandr Kikhtenko said this live on Channel 5 on Tuesday, UNN reports.
He said that that the boiler houses of the Sloviansk heat and power plant were designed for coal of only one type – type A.
“This coal is produced only on the territory controlled by DPR and LPR. If we do not buy such coal, it means that we will stop the plant – there will be no light, no heat, and a unified energy system will be destroyed,” the governor said.
He said that enterprises registered on the territory controlled by the Ukrainian authorities were holding direct talks with militants, signing agreements and executing them.
“Now there is no other option,” Kikhtenko said.
As reported, Ukrainian Prosecutor General Vitaliy Yarema said recently that the purchase of products from DPR and LPR was a criminal offense. Officials who will buy coal from the occupied territories will be convicted, he said.
“There is a new article that was adopted by the Verkhovna Rada. That is, the purchase of any products or wealth from DPR and LPR is a crime,” Yarema said.
