Italy lifts restrictions on Ukraine commercial flights

Italy has lifted all restrictions on flights of Ukrainian air carriers, the press service of the Ukrainian Infrastructure Ministry told UNIAN.
”Italy has sent a letter of intent to satisfy all requests of Ukrainian air carriers in any amount without restrictions on frequency [of flights]. It is not yet an `Open Skies` agreement … it is related to the frequency, while the issue of lifting restrictions on the number of carriers has not been discussed,” a statement reads.
As UaPosition reported earlier, according to the government`s action plan for 2016, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine plans to sign by the end of the year a joint aviation space agreement (”Open Skies”) between Ukraine and the European Union.
In May 2015, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko issued a decree authorizing Infrastructure Minister Andriy Pyvovarsky to sign such agreement between Ukraine and the European Union.
The ministry`s leadership had repeatedly stated that the agreement would have been signed by the end of 2015. According to Pyvovarsky, the signing of this agreement is impossible until the UK and Spain solve the dispute over Gibraltar, and Ukraine has no right to make any unilateral decisions in this regard. Talks related to the determination of the area have been held between European and Ukrainian sides since June, 2014. The rest of the agreement was initialed back in 2013.
In addition, an Open Skies agreement between Ukraine and the U.S. came into effect in January of this year.
