Israeli President to attend 75th anniversary of Babi Yar tragedy in Kyiv

Israeli President Reuven Rivlin is expected to visit Kyiv in September 2016 to participate in the 75th commemoration of the Babi Yar tragedy, the Ukrainian parliament`s press service reported, referring to a statement made by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Israel to Ukraine Eliav Belotserkovsky.
The Israeli president is expected to deliver a speech at the Verkhovna Rada [the Ukrainian parliament] during his visit to Kyiv. To promote bilateral relations, a visit to Ukraine by Speaker of the Knesset Yuli Edelstein is also on the agenda.
The signing of a memorandum of cooperation between Ukraine`s Verkhovna Rada and Israel`s Knesset will enhance cooperation between both the parties. Another important issue, according to the Ukrainian parliament`s speaker, is the country`s ratification of a Social Security Agreement and an agreement on temporary employment of Ukrainians in certain sectors of Israel`s economy.
”We will consider the documents in Parliament, and support and ratify the agreement,” the speaker said.
He also emphasized a high level of mutual understanding and trust between Ukraine and Israel, as well as active cooperation at a parliamentary level. The speaker stressed that Ukraine ”needs Israel`s diplomatic support and the support of the majority of countries, in the face of Russia`s aggression.”
