Hackers attacked website of Ukraine’s Ministry of Education and Science

A DDoS attack was initiated over the weekend but the website of the Ministry of Education and Science is still unavailable to users, according to the ministry`s press service.

”Unfortunately, the website of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine is temporarily down for technical reasons,” the press service wrote on Facebook this weekend.

Earlier, December 16, the website of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine was temporarily unavailable. Later, the press officer of the Ministry of Infrastructure Maryna Tomko said that the Ministry`s portal had been attacked since the morning of December 16.

Earlier, December 6, unidentified hackers interfered with the website of the State Treasury Service of Ukraine. For more than an hour, the www.treasury.gov.ua link redirected the users to a www.whoismrrobot.com website. Also, the website of the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine was down in a hacker attack.

According to the Ukrainian security chief, Ukraine needed to beef up its cyber defenses, citing a spate of attacks on government websites that he said originated in Russia, including the attack on a Kyiv region energy grid.

Besides, according to the report by CrowdStrike, a hacking group linked to the Russian government and high-profile cyber attacks against Democrats during the U.S. presidential election likely used a malware implant on Android devices to track and target Ukrainian artillery units from late 2014 through 2016.
