Groysman urges to boost gas production in Ukraine

Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman has called the decline in the energy dependence of Ukraine at the expense of maximizing its own gas production a government priority.
”Ukraine has to overcome energy dependence and to increase to the maximum own production, implementing energy efficiency policies as much as possible. This will enable the country to develop fully at the expense of its own energy resources,” he said at a government meeting on Wednesday.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine has plans to reduce imports of natural gas in 2016 compared to 2015 by 20-30% – from 16.4 bcm to 11-13 bcm and procure mostly by reversing scheme in the EU.
Earlier, former Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said that Ukraine, which imported about half of the natural gas to meet its needs, was going to abandon the import of ”blue fuel” within 10 years and become an exporter.
