Groysman: government focus remains on structural and systemic reforms

Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman says his government will continue cooperation with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and make every effort to ensure that Ukraine fulfills its commitments, the government`s press service reported.
”The Ukrainian government is set to conduct structural and systemic reforms in the country, and we are aware that these reforms are important in the first place for our country,” the press service quoted the prime minister as saying during his meeting with the U.S. Department of the Treasury`s Assistant Secretary for International Finance Ramin Toloui in Kyiv.
Groysman thanked the U.S. Government for its decision to provide loan guarantees to the tune of $1 billion to support Ukraine, adding that it was a very important step towards macroeconomic stabilization in the country.
According to Groysman, the Ukrainian government should focus on the fight against corruption, particularly in state enterprises, through holding open contests for election of their management, as well as on a transparent privatization process, and the reform of the Ukrainian customs service. A further emphasis will be on reforming the energy sector, improving the efficiency of social policy and institutional ability of Ukrainian authorities, ensuring equal opportunities for businesses, carrying out deregulation, as well as the pension reform.
The press service noted that the Assistant Secretary for International Finance welcomed the first steps undertaken by the newly-formed Ukrainian government, in particular regarding the introduction of a single market price of gas, the implementation of the IMF program, as well as calls to undermine the political influence of oligarchs.
Toloui also pointed to the progress in partnership between Ukraine and the United States over the last two years and noted that the United States stood ready to support Ukraine on the path of reforms. This success has been reinforced by the decision to provide the third macro-financial financial assistance in the form of loan guarantees, as was reported in the Department of Information and Communication of the Cabinet of Ministers` Secretariat.
