Government approves new program of cooperation with NATO

The Cabinet of Ministers at its regular meeting endorsed a draft presidential decree on the approval of the Ukraine-NATO annual national program for 2014, the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reported on Tuesday.
“The drafts of this decree and this year’s program were developed by the Foreign Ministry last year, approved at a government meeting and submitted for consideration by the then president at the beginning of this year, but in March the document was returned to the Foreign Ministry for revision ‘due to changes in the composition of the Cabinet of Ministers and the fundamentally new domestic and foreign political situation in Ukraine at that time,” reads the statement.
The new draft plan of cooperation was finalized “taking into account the peculiarities of cooperation amid Russia’s armed aggression.”
“In particular, NATO drafted additional mechanisms for intensifying cooperation in all areas, increasing funding for almost all current cooperation programs,” the Foreign Ministry said.
The document was drawn up ahead of the NATO summit, which begins in Britain on September 4. A meeting of the NATO- Ukraine Commission at the level of heads of state and government is to be held as part of the summit. It is expected that Ukraine will be the only partner country with which a meeting will be held at the highest level in the 28+1 format.
