Ukraine`s Minister of Regional Development Hennadiy Zubko and representative of the German Society for International Cooperation (Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarbeit, GIZ) Sabine Muller have signed an agreement worth EUR 5.85 million on the implementation of the project on ”Integrated Urban Development in Ukraine.”
The project seeks to promote best practices of urban development of participants in the Leipzig Charter on Sustainable European Cities and implement them in four Ukrainian cities selected for the project, namely Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Poltava, and Chernivtsi, Zubko said.
”It is very important to implement the best practices of the Leipzig Charter participant cities in the Ukrainian cities,” he said.
The project is designed for three years during which the integrated development concept will be elaborated for these cities. The funding worth EUR 5.85 million will be provided by Germany`s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs. In addition, EUR 200,000 in-kind contribution will be allocated for the mentioned cities, namely by providing free-of-cost office space.
Zubko stated that the implementation of the project would help introduce new logistic technologies on the basis of existing infrastructure, create new jobs and recreational areas, as well as raise health care standards.
