German intelligence: Russia supplies air defense systems to Donbas

Russia supplies the newest air defense systems to militants in eastern Ukraine.
The Bundestag received such information from the German Federal Intelligence Service (BND) at the request of a member of the Government Committee for Defense from the Left Party, Alexander Neu, Deutsche Welle reported, referring to the Bild newspaper.
“The issue concerns the Russian Pantsir self-propelled surface-to-air missile and anti-aircraft artillery weapon systems. They were seen in Ukraine’s eastern regions on August 15 and 25. In response to a deputy inquiry the government in Berlin says that the detected air defense systems are not in service with the Ukrainian army,” the report states.
According to the newspaper, based on the response of the federal government, it remains unclear whether these systems are maintained by militants and whether they were used during the crash of the Malaysian Boeing 777 with nearly 300 passengers on board in mid-July near Shakhtarsk.
However, German intelligence has information that Donbas terrorists were partially trained on Russian territory.
