Gas price for Ukraine ”absolutely comfortable” – Russian Energy Minister

Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said the contract price of Russian gas for Ukraine in the second quarter of 2016 was ”absolutely comfortable” even without discounts, and Moscow was not willing to discuss lower prices with Kyiv, according to RBC.
Novak recalled that the contract price of Russian gas in the second quarter of 2016 is estimated at $177 per 1,000 cubic meters without discount. According to Novak, the current price is ”much more comfortable than spot prices across European gas hubs.”
”I believe that the price in the second quarter is absolutely comfortable … It is fully in line with the market situation and market trends,” the minister said.
At this, Novak noted that the main issue so far was whether Naftogaz had enough funds to pay.
According to Novak, the Russian side is not ready to discuss new discounts with Kyiv.
”I`m not ready to discuss it in principle. Because now we do not know what price will be set in the third quarter. It is too early to talk about it,” the minister said.
As reported earlier, Gazprom on June 6 received an official letter from Naftogaz of Ukraine. The letter stated that Naftogaz`s position has not changed over the past year and a half: the company would be ready to buy gas from Gazprom if the latter could offer the price lower than the European suppliers. According to Naftogaz, the economically justified price should be ”the price at the hub minus transportation.”
