G7 leaders urge Ukraine to enhance anti-corruption efforts

G7 leaders have urged the Ukrainian authorities to step up efforts in the fight against corruption and carry out the necessary reforms.
Such an appeal was made in their declaration issued following the results of G7 Ise-Shima Summit that was held on May 26-27, 2016 and devoted to addressing major global economic and political challenges.
”We commend and support the steps Ukraine is taking to implement comprehensive structural, governance and economic reforms and encourage Ukraine to continue and accelerate the process,” the statement reads.
”We urge Ukraine to maintain and enhance the momentum in its fight against corruption and its judicial reform, including the Prosecutor General`s office,” as noted in the declaration.
G7 leaders stressed they were fully committed to providing long-term support to this end. They also commended the work of the Ukraine support group of G7 Ambassadors in Kyiv.
The Summit was attended by U.S. President Barack Obama, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, British Prime Minister David Cameron, French President Francois Hollande, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi.
