France reiterates decision to sell Mistral helicopter carriers to Russia

France, despite international pressure, is not going to abandon the sale of at least one of the two Mistral helicopter carriers to Russia, French Foreign Ministry spokesman Romain Nadal told reporters on Thursday.
“In international affairs, as, indeed, in the internal, the agreement is the law of the parties,” he said, when asked what legislative or regulatory acts of France the so-called “rule of irreversibility of the concluded contract” is conditioned.
Earlier, French Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said that the basic condition for the possible cancellation of the contract for the supply of Mistral amphibious assault ships to Russia could be the EU’s decision to impose third level sanctions.
