Foreign Ministry elaborates on Donbas security road map announced by Poroshenko

Ukraine`s Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said that the logic of the ”road map” for the implementation of the Minsk agreements lies in the need to clearly define the sequence of steps on security issues, an UNIAN correspondent reported from Klimkin`s joint briefing in Kyiv with European Commissioner on European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn and Deputy Secretary General of the European Service of External Action Helga Schmid and the diplomats from the Eastern Partnership member states.
They relate to the ceasefire, withdrawal of Russian troops, heavy weapons and Russian mercenaries, granting access to the OSCE SMM to all areas of Donbas, including the border, and ensuring security ahead of the elections, during the elections and after the elections in Donbas.
According to Klimkin, the meeting in the G+5 format in Warsaw was dedicated to the issue of finding ways to make Russia fulfill Minsk agreements amid lack of any real security steps by Moscow, the minister said.
”Therefore, the logic of the ”road map” that we want to co-create lies in the need to clearly define the sequence of steps, in the first place the sequence of the security steps. They relate both to the ceasefire and withdrawal of Russian troops, heavy weapons, and mercenaries,” said Klimkin.
The steps also relate to ”ensuring the OSCE special monitoring mission`s effective control over the Donbas territory, in accordance with the mission`s mandate, and, of course, the uncontrolled part of the Ukrainian-Russian border; and the question of how way to ensure security before the elections, during the elections, and after the elections until a normal life actually returns to Donbas,” the foreign minister said.
As UNIAN reported earlier, on July 9, President Petro Poroshenko, following a meeting in G+5 format in the framework of the NATO summit in Warsaw said that the leaders of the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, and Italy, also known as G5, jointly with Ukraine would elaborate a roadmap to ensure security in eastern Ukraine.
