Fiscal Service head Nasirov doesn`t want to disband tax police

Chief of Ukraine`s State Fiscal Service (SFS) Roman Nasirov says it is inexpedient to disband the tax police and suggests that it should be transformed into a financial investigation service.
”Last year, we already proposed several options of reforming the tax police. The basic option is to transform the tax police into a financial investigation service. And we believe that currently it is the most effective way to properly reform and partially demilitarize the tax police, as well as engage efficiently in the fight against crime,” Nasirov told reporters.
The final decision on the issue will be made by the Ukrainian parliament, he said.
Earlier, when speaking at a forum in Kyiv on May 24, Ukrainian Finance Minister Oleksandr Danylyuk announced plans to liquidate the tax police.
”I have a practical plan how to do this, and it is a matter of several months, not years … and perhaps [it can be done] even faster,” the minister said.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine`s Cabinet of Ministers approved amended draft laws on SFS reform and resubmitted then to the Verkhovna Rada. The draft laws were developed as part of the reform program approved by Ukraine`s key creditor – the International Monetary Fund. The revision of the bills was necessary in connection with the change of Ukraine`s government.
The documents envisage the establishment of a single territorial SFS authority at the regional level, and the optimization of its activity along with lay-offs in the future. This would also include simplification of the administrative procedure to challenge taxpayers` monetary liabilities. It is also planned to distinguish different kinds of SFS activities that will be supervised by a respective SFS deputy head.
Earlier, Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman said that the SFS reform, particularly the reform of the customs service, would be one of the government`s economic priorities.
