Volleys of gunfire and explosions have been heard in the eastern districts of Mariupol since 05.00 on Friday, the Novosti Donbassa online newspaper has reported.
“Heavy artillery is used in the fighting, and volleys of Grad rockets can be seen from houses on the outskirts of the city,” reads the report.
Yesterday battles were fought in the village of Shyrokine, 20 kilometers from Mariupol.
A number of media outlets earlier reported, citing the press center for the anti-terrorist operation, that Russian mercenaries were bringing Grad and Uragan multiple rocket launchers, as well as self-propelled howitzers, to Mariupol. However, the ATO headquarters later denied this report, saying that their Facebook page had been hacked.
