EU`s 2016 quotas for export of Ukrainian sugar, maize and juices finished

Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Minister Oleksiy Pavlenko says Ukrainian exporters in January-March used all annual quotas for duty-free supplies of sugar, honey, maize, barley groats and flour, processed tomatoes, as well as grape and apple juice to the European Union.
”The dynamics of the use of the 2016 quotas show that they are over for grape and apple juice, processed tomatoes, maize, honey, sugar and barley groats,” he wrote on Facebook.
In his words, the quotas are provided on the ”first-come-first-served” basis, as well as through licensing of supplies.
In January-March, Ukrainian exporters already supplied 5,000 tonnes of honey, 20,000 tonnes of sugar, 6,300 tonnes of barley groats and flour, 10,000 tonnes of processed tomatoes, 10,000 tonnes of grape and apple juice, as well as 400,000 tonnes of maize.
In addition, it is reported that Ukrainian exporters have already used 64.7% of the quota (4,000 tonnes) allocated for supplies of oats to the EU this year, 32% of the quota (36,000 tonnes) for poultry, 88% of the quota (950,000 tonnes) for wheat. Quotas for a number of commodities, like lamb, mushrooms, garlic, dairy products, beef, pork and eggs are still not used.
As UaPosition reported earlier, the Ukrainian Agrarian Ministry has urged domestic agricultural producers to bring their production in line with EU quotas, which will help boost supplies of Ukrainian produce onto the EU markets.
Last year, Ukraine exported $14.6 billion worth of farm produce, exceeding imports by $11.1 billion, which was a record high level since the country`s independence. In 2015, Asian countries accounted for 45% of Ukrainian food exports. The share of exports to Europe was 28.2%, to Africa 13.6% and to the CIS countries 10%.
