European Parliament to vote on tourist visa waivers for Ukraine on April 6

The European Parliament (EP) has scheduled its final vote on visa waivers for Ukrainian citizens` short-term trips for Thursday, April 6, according to the EP`s news alert.

”Vote on a draft law allowing Ukrainian citizens the right to travel to the EU without a visa [will take place] on Thursday,” the EP said on its website.

The EP recalled that the wording of the bill had already been agreed informally with the Council of the European Union. It is expected that it will enter into force in early June.

Ukraine is a priority country within the European Neighborhood Policy and the Eastern Partnership. The EU is committed to a policy of sequenced engagement with Ukraine and to a close relationship that encompasses political association and economic integration.

The EU is currently focusing on support to the comprehensive reform process underway in Ukraine, notably through the implementation of an unprecedented support package of EUR 11 billion, the EP said.

Against the background of the crisis in eastern Ukraine, the EU supports all efforts for a lasting peaceful solution respecting the unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country and which ensures a stable, prosperous and democratic future for all Ukrainian citizens.

Earlier, a visa-free regime between Georgia and the European Union came into force on March 28, 2017.
