European Commission proposes to harmonize new natural gas price for Ukraine by winter’s end

Vice-President of the European Commission’s Energy Union Maros Sefcovic calls for the discussion of summer schedule of natural gas deliveries from Russia to Ukraine and conclusion of agreement at earliest convenience by the end of winter, he said in an interview with RIA Novosti news agency, responding to a question whether he would soon initiate tripartite talks on summer gas package with representatives of Russia, Ukraine and the European Commission.
“I think we should discuss it as soon as possible in order to have an agreement by the end of winter to supply (gas) in summer. We should not leave (the solution of this issue – Ed.) until the last moment,” Sefcovic said
The Commission official also expressed the hope that the decision made by the arbitration court in Stockholm “will contribute to a more long-lasting solution regarding” the issue of Russian natural gas supplies to Ukraine.
As previously reported, the agreement reached last October in Brussels provides for deliveries of Russian gas to Ukraine is effective until March 31, 2015.
It was reported earlier that Maros Sefcovic would discuss a possible “summer package” to solve the gas supply problems between Ukraine and Russia on January 14 in Moscow.
