EU to give EUR 97mln to Ukraine for support of local governance

Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine Jan Tombinski says that the European Union will provide EUR 97 million to support local governance in Ukraine.
Tombinski said at a press conference in UNIAN that the European Union had developed a large-scale program to support local governance in Ukraine with a budget of EUR 97 million to be jointly provided by the European Commission, Germany and Poland.
This program will focus on supporting Ukraine`s fund for regional development, he said.
Additionally, Tombinski noted that Ukraine should move further towards decentralization, as it is one of the most important elements in eliminating the shortcomings of the country`s centralized governance model.
As UaPosition reported earlier, Ukraine plans to get about $10 billion in financial assistance from international financial institutions, including $5.8 billion from the International Monetary Fund and over $1.5 billion from the World Bank under new loan programs.
