EU to decide on visa-free regime for Ukraine this fall, journalist tweets

European Union ambassadors will decide on whether to enact a visa-free regime for Ukraine and Georgia in the fall of 2016, RFE/RL`s correspondent Rikard Jozwiak tweeted.
The last meeting of the EU ambassadors will be held on Wednesday, July 20, before the holidays, according to Jozwiak.
The ambassadors will only discuss the issue of a suspension mechanism ahead of the visa liberalization decision for Ukraine and Georgia, he wrote.
As UNIAN noted earlier, the report advocating support for the initiative of the European Commission to grant Ukraine a visa-free regime will be presented at the European Parliament on September 5.
On April 20, the European Commission had invited both the European Parliament and the EU Council to lift the visa regime for Ukrainian citizens. This proposal was the result of a positive assessment, made last December, of Ukraine`s steps under the framework of the Visa Liberalization Action Plan.
On July 11, EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Johannes Hahn expressed hope that the visa-free regime issue with Ukraine would be resolved no later than October.
