EU, NATO condemn treaty between Russia and Abkhazia

The European Union and NATO condemn and do not recognize the so-called “treaty on alliance and strategic partnership” signed between Russia and unrecognized Abkhazia on November 24.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg made respective statements in Brussels on Monday, a Ukrinform correspondent in Brussels.
“The Russian Federation’s signature today of a so-called ‘Treaty on Alliance and Strategic Partnership’ with Georgia’s breakaway region of Abkhazia is detrimental to ongoing efforts to stabilise the security situation in the region,” Mogherini said.
Stoltenberg, in turn, said that NATO and its allies do not recognize the “so-called treaty.”
The EU and NATO again supported the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia.
