EP to meet in extraordinary session Tuesday to adopt resolution over Brexit: Schulz

The European Parliament has decided to meet on Tuesday morning to adopt a resolution assessing the outcome of the UK referendum and describing the necessary steps of the European institutions, European Parliament Martin Schulz has told the reporters following the extraordinary Conference of Presidents, an UNIAN correspondent in Brussels reports.
The EP president emphasized that the European Parliament is actively involved in these steps according to the Article 50 of the Agreement.
Schulz also noted that the meeting was going to be held shortly between European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, EU Council President Donald Tusk and Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte (as the Netherlands chairs the Council at the moment).
”The line of the EP is quite clear. We are very sad about the decision of the voters in the United Kingdom, said Schulz, ”But it is a sovereign expression of will of the British voters to leave the European Union.”
Schulz described the moment as ”very difficult” for both the EU and the UK. He said the officials have now from a legal and from a procedural point of view to assess, what the necessary next steps are.
