Dutch MP says postponement of ratification of Ukraine-EU Association pre-scheduled

Ratification of the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement was postponed at the request of the initiators of the referendum in order to avoid possible legislative controversy of the vote regarding Ukraine, according to Dutch MP from the Socialist Party of the Netherlands Harry van Bommel, TSN reported.
According to the parliamentarian, it was a conscious plan of the initiators of the referendum.
It was previously stated that Ukraine has merely become a victim of circumstances, as the issue of ratification of the Agreement was ”coincidentally” the first legislative act to be considered in Parliament after the entry into force of the law on referendums.
”No, it`s not a coincidence. It was planned this way,” said van Bommel. ”Obviously, those who wanted to hold a referendum on the [Ukraine-EU Association] Agreement did everything possible to ensure that all the processes, including the ratification of the agreement, took place in the right order, to be able to bring the Agreement up on the referendum. And they have succeeded.”
As reported earlier, the ratification of the Agreement has been scheduled in the country`s parliament for June 30, 2015. However, the organizers of the referendum in an interview with local media said they sent a letter to the two parties – SP and PVV (consistent opponents of Ukraine`s Association) – with a request to postpone the date of ratification.
The Senate postponed consideration for a week. The law on referendums in the Netherlands entered into force on July 1, 2015. Thus, the referendum on Ukraine became possible. Had the ratification taken place on June 30, as planned, passing the matter for a vote on a referendum would not have been allowed by law.
At the moment, according to the deputy, this circumstance does allow doubting the legitimacy of the referendum to be held on April 6.
