Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said the outcome of the referendum on the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement was a ”disaster,” adding that the Netherlands may not sign the deal, that`s according to NOS.
”The referendum produced a disastrous result,” he said during a meeting with parliamentarians from EU countries, NOS reports.
Rutte reiterated that it was still possible that the Netherlands would not sign the agreement if the negotiations between the EU and the Dutch political parties no accord were reached.
At the same time, Rutte stressed he hoped the situation would not have come this far. In conversation with the parliamentarians, he also reiterated his position on referendums: ”I am totally against referendums. And I am totally, totally, totally against referendums on multilateral agreements. That`s because it makes no sense.”
As UNIAN reported earlier, the Netherlands intended to consider at the upcoming EU summit on June 28-29 the possible ways out of the situation with the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement which arose after the negative outcome of the Dutch referendum.
