Deficit of Ukraine`s foreign trade in goods grows by 11 times in Q1

The deficit of Ukraine`s foreign trade in goods in January through March 2016 amounted to $961.3 million, up by 10.6 times compared to a deficit of $90.2 million in the same period last year, according to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.
Exports of goods from Ukraine in the period under review decreased by 18.5% year-over-year to $7.719 billion, while imports shrank by 9.3% to $8.680 billion, according to the report.
The ratio of coverage of imports by exports was 0.87 (compared to 0.99 in January-March 2015). Ukraine handled foreign trade operations with partners from 205 countries in this reporting period.
Ukraine exported $3.197 billion worth of goods to the EU in the reporting period, a decrease of 2.7% compared to the same period last year, accounting for 41.4% of the country`s total exports.
Imports of goods from EU countries in this period fell by 1.2% to $3.861 billion, accounting for 44.5% of total imports.
Exports of goods to the Russian Federation decreased by 38.3% to $649.9 million, while imports declined by 45.6% to $1.021 billion.
The data is presented excluding the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, as well as part of the Anti-Terrorist Operation zone in eastern Ukraine.
As UNIAN reported earlier, the deficit of Ukraine`s foreign trade in goods in January-February 2016 amounted to $731 million, up by 2.9 times as compared to a deficit of $254.9 million in the same period last year.
