Defense Ministry on Russia`s refusal to return Debaltseve: it was Ukrainian in Minsk accords

Debaltseve was listed as a Ukrainian town in the Minsk agreements, this issue is on the agenda now, Ukrainian Defense Minister Stepan Poltorak said on the sidelines of the Verkhovna Rada, 112 Ukraine TV Channel has reported.

”As for Debaltseve: this is the Russian position that it is not a Ukrainian town. We remember that when we agreed, Debaltseve was Ukrainian. Therefore, this issue is on the agenda now. But first, we need to complete the disengagement of our troops in three areas. We have already withdrawn in two areas, but we have not carried out the disengagement near the village of Stanytsia Luhanska, and there is no reason to do so because there is still a problem there. Yesterday, there was a case of mortar shelling,” he said.

According to Poltorak, Ukraine needs to advance on the path that will ensure accession to NATO.

”It is our strategic goal,” he said.

As we reported earlier, the Kremlin said that Russia did not agree with the return of the occupied town of Debaltseve under control of Ukraine, the work on this issue will continue at the level of ministers and aides.
