Customs reform to consider positive results of national police reforms – Finance Minister

Ukraine`s Finance Minister Oleksandr Danylyuk has said customs reform in Ukraine should follow the approach applied while reforming the national police.
In an interview with one of the country`s leading TV channels, Danylyuk stated it was the only effective way to combat corruption, attract new people and alter the officers` attitude toward performing their duties.
The minister also noted that significant progress had already been made in customs reform.
”Some of our initiatives will be introduced from August 1.These are the `single window` initiative [registration of export-import operations] and the mobile teams initiative [rapid response to corrupt dealings of customs officials],” the minister said.
Danylyuk also pointed to a long-term effect, rather than short-term results, from the measures already adopted and further steps to be added in the future.
”It is impossible to estimate [the effect] based on figures from the past couple of months. Let`s look at numbers in a few months,” the minister stressed.
