Criminal case opened against former chief of general staff for desertion

The Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office has opened criminal proceedings against former Chief of the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Admiral Yuriy Ilyin, on charges of desertion.
Prosecutor General’s Office spokesman Yuriy Boichenko said this at a briefing on Tuesday, a Ukrinform correspondent reported.
“The Ukrainian Prosecutor General’s Office has launched a criminal investigation into desertion by Admiral Yuriy Ilyin, who, being subordinate to Ukraine’s defense minister, left his workplace in late May 2014,” he said.
He said that criminal proceedings had been opened under Part 1, Article 408 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (desertion).
