No compromise in EU over Crimea occupation: Lithuania president

There is no compromise regarding the issue of the Russian occupation of Crimea. Europe understands what at stake is, Lithuanian President Dalia Grybauskaite said in an interview with the Ukrainian Week [Tyzhden] international edition.

”Ukraine is testing the limits of the European commitment to freedom, the principles of sovereignty, and territorial integrity,” she said.

According to Grybauskaite, open channels of communication with Russia are necessary in order to ease tensions. But the opportunity to cooperate on global issues as the fight against international terrorism cannot be achieved at the expense of Ukraine and common values.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the UN General Assembly`s human rights committee, in its first action on Crimea, adopted a resolution drafted by Ukraine and backed by the United States, France, and Britain by a vote of 73 to 23 on November 15, with 76 abstentions.
