Biometric passports will be issued to Ukrainians from January 1 – MFA

The Ukrainian authority faces a task of arranging serial production of biometric passports from January 1, 2015.
Deputy Foreign Minister Lana Zerkal told a press conference, Yevropeiska Pravda informs.
According to her, the only flaw that must be corrected towards a visa-free regime with the EU is the issue of biometric passports.
“In September, there were four EU missions in Ukraine on the assessment of a progress in this sphere: one – on control over the borders, another – on the issue of security of documents, and another two – on asylum and migration. I should confirm that we have rather positive results. The only issue is that serial production of biometric passports is not arranged. This is a certain flaw, which we plan to remove in the nearest future,” she noted.
According to the Deputy Minister, the main task of the ministry is to launch the issue of biometric passports from January 1, 2015.
Zerkal also said that currently meetings are held on the settlement of problem issues, related to the technical side and funding.
