At least $1.8 bln to be allocated in 2017 budget for utilities subsidies

Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister Pavlo Rozenko has announced Ukraine`s national budget will allocate at least UAH 45 billion, or US$1.8 billion, on subsidies for low-income households to pay for housing and utilities.
”The sum that will be allocated [in the 2017 budget] will be at least UAH 45 billion,” he stated after a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
As UNIAN reported earlier, the Social Policy Ministry projects that the number of households which will need subsidies for housing and utilities during the 2016-2017 heating season in Ukraine will grow to 8-9 million from 5.5 million, after a flat price of natural gas was set for all types of consumers as of May 1, 2016.
The Finance Ministry reported that 43% of housing and utilities bills were covered by subsidies in 2015. Last year`s budget allocated UAH 35 billion for subsidies, and budget spending on utilities in 2016 will exceed UAH 40 billion. The Finance Ministry projects that this sum may grow to UAH 70-80 billion in 2017.
