Antonov wins nearly $3 mln suit against Russian aircraft factory

Ukraine`s leading state-owned aircraft producer Antonov has won a suit against the Russian Aviacor – Aviation Plant over the payment of royalties for the use of the trademark during the manufacture of aircraft, according to the statement by Antonov`s lawyers in the case, the law firm Ilyashev and Partners.
”By the court ruling from July 4, 2016, the claims of the state-owned enterprise  Antonov totaling more than $2.9 million have been satisfied and are subject to recovery in favor of our client,” the statement reads quoting a senior partner at Ilyashev and Partners Roman Marchenko as saying.
It is noted that there has been a closed hearing.
According to earlier media reports, Russia seeks to give up on having their An-124 Ruslan aircraft undergo maintenance service by Antonov. Aircraft in question are exploited by the Russian carriers and the Russian Ministry of Defense.
As reported, the main reason for this decision was stated as ”difficulties in obtaining technical support from the Ukrainian side.”
The flight resource of An-124 aircraft is very substantial – up to 50,000 hours, 10,000 flights and 45 calendar years. It is established by Ukraine`s Antonov, which is a type certificate holder. Antonov is also the company responsible for the type design of the aircraft.
UNIAN memo. SOE Antonov is Ukraine`s largest aircraft manufacturer, which will be the base of the Ukrainian Aircraft Manufacturing Corporation, according to the decision of the state concern Ukroboronprom. It will include specialized research institutes, state-owned enterprise Novator, Kharkiv-based machine-building plant FED, Kharkiv Aggregate Design Bureau, and the plant Mayak.
