Antonov hires Russia`s UAE-based service center to repair engines

Ukraine`s state-owned enterprise Antonov, the only Ukrainian designer and manufacturer of cargo and passenger planes, on September 15 signed a contract with UAE-based Aerosila Gulf FZC on repairs worth $1.65 million, or about UAH 43.43 million, according to the investigative journalism portal Nashi Groshi (literally ”Our Money”).

The contract foresees overhaul repairs to six TA-12 engines of the Ukrainian Air Force to be used in An-124-100 Ruslan aircraft and An-225 Mriya civil aviation aircraft, and the services should be provided by August 2017, Nashi Groshi wrote referring to data from the ProZorro public procurements web portal.

UAE-based Aerosila Gulf FZC is a service center, established by Russian OJSC SPE Aerosila at Sharjah Airport in 2005.

According to the public procurements bulletin, Antonov`s contracts concluded with the UAE-based company in June 2015 were estimated at $2.10 million, and those struck in April 2016 amounted to $2.36 million.

Aerosila is not part of the integrated state holding like Rostec, but the Russian government takes part in the company`s management exercising its golden share rights. In the period from 2008 to 2014, the Russian company received RUR 269.210 million in state orders from Ukraine.

Earlier UNIAN reported that Antonov was planning to terminate, by the end of the year, all ongoing joint projects with Russian transport company Volga-Dnepr, which has been operating, among others, An-124 Ruslan planes.
