Ukrainian government expects 2017 budget to be passed by December 1

The Ukrainian government hopes that the national budget for 2017 will be passed before December 1, 2016, as it is required by laws, according to the government`s press service.

”We expect that the bill on the national budget for 2017 will be adopted by December 1, 2016, as it is stipulated in the law. We should begin a new budget year on schedule,” Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said during a visit to Lviv region on Friday, the press service said.

Groysman said he was in talks with parliamentarians to pass a realistic, non-populist budget.

”We expect that the parliament will consider all the proposals on time,” he said and called on Ukraine`s parliamentarians for constructive work, so that the government-prepared budget becomes a budget of development and social justice.

”The government has tabled a well-balanced, realistic, fair draft budget in parliament, it has seven clearly defined priorities. Among them are national security and defense, large-scale road construction, which will get from UAH 35 to UAH 40 billion, as well as agriculture, where small- and medium-sized farms will be given UAH 5.5 billion. A number of regional programs will also be implemented,” he said.

The government also plans to allocate UAH 3.8 billion on the implementation of energy modernization projects in the regions. What is more, teachers` salaries are expected to grow by almost 30%, while doctors will also see a 20% increase in salaries.

”From December 1, 2016, the government is to raise social standards by 10%. Next year, they will grow by another 10%,” Groysman said.
